Meta 1 9 5 Commentary David Guzik
Commentary on Romans 9:1-5 (Read Romans 9:1-5 ) Being about to discuss the rejection of the Jews and the calling of the Gentiles, and to show that the whole agrees with the sovereign electing love of God, the apostle expresses strongly his affection for his people. The speaker is Isaiah (“my”; 5:1, 9); the prophet speaks in the first person for the first time. The “beloved,” the owner of the vineyard, is God and the “vineyard” is Israel (5:7). After speaking 5:1-2, Isaiah quotes God in 5:3-6 and then returns to speak the balance of the chapter. 1 Timothy 5:9 Parallel Verses ⇓ See commentary ⇓ 1 Timothy 5:9, NIV: 'No widow may be put on the list of widows unless she is over sixty, has been faithful to her husband,' 1 Timothy 5:9, ESV: 'Let a widow be enrolled if she is not less than sixty years of age, having been the wife of one husband,' 1 Timothy 5:9, KJV: 'Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old.
